As you know, the membership has approved the contract by a wide margin. Unfortunately, contract negotiations did not resolve the dispute over Health Research, Inc.’s unilateral imposition of EyeMed, the vision coverage that is currently in place.
CSEA has challenged HRI’s action on the basis that the contract calls for official notification of proposed changes in health coverage with an opportunity to arrive at a mutually agreeable resolution. As stated earlier, there was no such opportunity; HRI signed an agreement with EyeMed without CSEA’s involvement.
Now the dispute is scheduled for arbitration on July 14, 2008. CSEA seeks to return to the Davis vision plan and/or deferring the matter to the Health Insurance Committee as set forth in the contract.
HRI is taking the position that EyeMed is an improvement over Davis so there is no issue. We need to hear from you. We are asking for your comments on your experience with EyeMed. Please contact us at hri@cseainc.org with your experience expressed in detail (i.e. dates, location, benefit and service experience).
